About Me

Tyrona Clark-Murray was born, raised, and educated in Jacksonville, Florida. She has lived in various neighborhoods on the North and Northwest sides of town before settling in the Paxon area nearly 23 years ago. She is a mother to two adult children and has one grandchild.  

Tyrona is a graduate of William M. Raines High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Florida A&M University. After earning her undergraduate degree, Tyrona joined the United States Army to serve in the Army Reserve. She served as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 2001. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of North Florida. Currently, she is studying to become a Certified Paralegal at Florida State College in Jacksonville (FSCJ).   

Tyrona has been educating Duval County students since 1993. Serving on the middle and high school levels, she has taught students in the inner-city (Northwestern Middle School) and the suburbs (Westside High School formerly known as Forrest High School).   

Tyrona has been volunteering to improve the communities in District 9 since 2016. She has been an active member of the Northwest Citizens Planning Advisory Committee (NWCPAC) for six years. The NWCPAC has three subcommittees Land Use and Zoning (LUZ), Taxation, Revenue, Utilization, and Expenditures (T.R.U.E), and Transportation (NFTPO). Tyrona has served on all three committees in some capacity. Additionally, she volunteered to lead NWCPAC special annual committees such as the Capital Improvement Projects Program. Most recently, Tyrona has served on the Community Based Crime Reduction Committee (CBCRC) since 2020.
